I would like to do a 20% project with the following learning goal: how to lose weight and improve fitness by introducing intense workouts of 30 minutes or less into my busy daily routine. Recently, medical experts have opined that short, intense workouts are more effective than long, low-intensity workouts in burning fat and improving cardiovascular fitness. Thus, they argue, "I don't have time" is no longer a good excuse for not exercising. I would like to try out the latest short, intense workouts and document the improvements in my own fitness between now and May.

I LOVE your idea. I know high intensity workouts are all the latest fad right now. Might I suggest CrossFit? I know CrossFit gyms are expensive for some people's taste and the work outs are always an hour long. If you are looking to shorten that time frame, you can always check out blogs of local CrossFit gyms that post workout. Check out this one from the gym I go to:http://www.carlsbadcrossfit.com/blog-and-wod/ I suggest doing the workouts labeled "Fitness". And on twitter you can follow @roamingwod for daily workouts. These are the types of workouts you can do in a regular gym in short period of time. I love talking about this kind of stuff. If you ever wana bounce ideas around about how to make it work with your schedule let me know.

Liza, awesome idea! It's so easy to fall out of the exercising habit because we feel like we don't have enough time. Given that we are all so busy, learning how to do an effective workout in 30 minutes will be so practical. I am planning on using my 20% project for fitness related goals as well. I think we have access to the campus gym. If so and if we have class time to work, we should totally work on our projects together!
